Omicron Virus : Delhi detects first case of Omicron variant; total tally in India now at 5

Omicron Covid Variant Live Updates: Delhi Sunday reported its first case of the Omicron variant of the novel coronavirus. Health Minister Satyendar Jain said that a man, of Indian origin, had come to Delhi from Tanzania a few days ago and tested positive for Covid-19 with the Omicron variant. So far, India has detected a total of five Omicron cases — one in Maharashtra, one in Gujarat, and two in Karnataka, apart from the new case in Delhi.

As per news report of The Indian Express, India saw a single-day rise of 2,796 fatalities on Sunday with Bihar carrying out a reconciliation exercise of its Covid data, pushing the country’s death toll to 4,73,326, while 8,895 new infections were reported, according to the Union health ministry data updated on Sunday. India’s total tally of Covid-19 cases has increased to 3,46,33,255, according to the data updated at 8 am. In Mumbai, a 33-year-old who had travelled to India from Cape Town in South Africa tested positive on Saturday. A 72-year-old NRI who flew in from Zimbabwe on November 28 is Gujarat’s first case. The first two cases of Omicron were reported from Bengaluru, of whom one flew out of the country.
