As per news report of NDTV, Putin says the invasion of Ukraine - what he called a "special military operation" - was necessary and had been provoked by the West. There had been speculation Russian leader could use the occasion to make a major announcement but he did not do so. Parades are taking place in 28 Russian cities involving 65,000 people, 2,400 items of military hardware and more than 400 aircraft.
