Ahead Of Polls, Assam Decides To Rename Fakhruddin Medical College As Barpeta Medical College

Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed, who hailed from Assam, served as the fifth President of India from 1974 to 1977, and remains the only President from the state.

As per news report of NDTV,In what might be seen as a decision that can trigger a fresh political controversy in Assam ahead of the crucial state polls next month, the state government on Tuesday announced that the Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College in Barpeta will be renamed as Barpeta Medical College, a decision taken during the state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
