Centre starts action against West Bengal ex-chief secretary

Three weeks after his retirement, the Centre has initiated major disciplinary proceedings against former West Bengal chief secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay, who now faces the prospect of losing his retirement benefits, either fully or partially.

As per news report of The Indian Express, since retiring from service last month, Bandyopadhyay, a 1987-batch IAS officer of West Bengal cadre, has been appointed special adviser to West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee. On June 16, the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), under the Ministry of Personnel, sent Bandyopadhyay a “memorandum” mentioning the charges and giving him 30 days to reply, ministry officials said Monday. He has been warned of major penalty proceedings, which allows the Centre to withhold pension or gratuity, or both, either in full or in part, they said.
