Sensex Crashes Over 1,500 Points, Nifty Below 16,500 On Omicron Fears

The Indian equity benchmarks extended losses after staging a gap down opening as spread of Omicron variant of Coronavirus rattled investors' sentiment.

As per news report of NDTV, the BSE Sensex fell as much as 1,587 points and Nifty 50 index dropped below its important psychological level of 16,500. As of 12:35 pm, the Sensex was down 1,572 points or 2.8 per cent at 55,440 and Nifty 50 index dropped 485 points or 2.85 per cent to 16,500. Asian share markets fell and oil prices slid on Monday as surging Omicron Covid-19 cases triggered tighter curbs in Europe and threatened to swamp the global economy into the New Year.
