New Delhi, 12 March 2021
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, US President Joe Biden, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga will today take part in the first meeting of the leaders of the "Quad" group of nations. While it is not yet known if PM Modi and Mr Biden will have an exclusive meeting, this will be their first meeting since the latter took over as US President. The virtual summit - seen as part of efforts to balance China's growing military and economic power - will focus on a coronavirus vaccine initiative to effectively deal with the pandemic, news agency PTI quoted people familiar with the matter as saying. The meeting also plans to announce financing agreements to support an increase in manufacturing capacity for coronavirus vaccines in India, a senior US administration official told news agency Reuters. India is the world's biggest vaccine maker.
