Volunteers in India will be immunised with a new locally made coronavirus vaccine in July. An unspecified number of people will have the vaccine, as part of a trial by Hyderabad-based firm Bharat Biotech. Tests in animals suggest the vaccine is safe and triggers an effective immune response.

Police have beefed up security outside the Taj hotel in south Mumbai after the Karachi Stock Exchange terror attack, a senior official said on Tuesday. The iconic hotel in Colaba area was among the targets of Pakistani terrorists during the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack. The official told PTI that Mumbai police are on high alert after Monday's Karachi exchange terror attack and as part of the enhanced anti-terror measures, security outside the hotel and other vital installations has been increased.

Two people were killed and four others were taken ill after benzene gas leaked at a pharmaceutical company at Parawada near here early on Tuesday morning, official sources said. The situation was now under control as the leak was restricted to one unit in the Sainor Life Sciences company, the sources said. The two killed were senior employees of the company, they said.

Three unidentified militants were killed in an encounter with the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district on Monday, police said. Nearly 36 lakh tonne sugar has been exported from Maharashtra between January and June this year as against the target of 60 lakh tonne during the period, an official said on Monday.
